Four The Hard Way
DANGER DANGER

I never knew much about Danger Danger in the past. Though I always enjoyed many of the "Pop/Metal" bands that ran amok during the mid to late 80's, for some reason they never held much esteem for me.

Even now just hearing the name "Danger Danger" causes a "Lets get Naughty Naughty" to run through my head and I'm like, "arrgghh!!!" Well 1999 opens a new era to the band with their new release-and surprise, their fourth, "Four the Hard Way" and I've got to admit it's a pleasant surprise.

Now appearing as only a threesome and from what I can gather, only two of the original members, "Bruno Ravel and Steve West on guitars and drums remain, they certainly have come full circle with their past, accepting it as part of their future and conceivably put out the album they wanted to release! Nothing flashy, just guitar-based rock, melodic backing vocals and songs meant to soften your heart and get your foot tapping.

Maybe the slightest difference I've noticed between this and the past work is the party vibe is less prominent and the music opts for a more mature tone in certain instances. No matter, fans of the group will be pleased with number 4 here-and the band must have had many considering the acclaims received during their peak years of '89-'92. What happened to Danger Danger the next few years is anybody's guess. I know original singer Ted Poley split and went on to do God only knows.

"Still Kickin'" opens the show here which features several pages of a shadowy female figure adjusting her dark eyewear and fits like a glove in relating where we're at now with the band. One of the heavier offerings I can remember, the backing vox are killer and offer abundant evidence we've got more than the flashy graphics and well-teased hair. "Captain Bring Me Down" rides an acoustic trail boasting serious overtones, before "Goin' All the Way" returns to rock ALA early Bon Jovi.

Again, we're not overexposed to keyboard ambitions though they are present and here serve to complement the chorus quite nicely. "Goin' Goin' Gone" is another one worth checking twice and if you've made it this far, stick around for the final track, a bonus of "Comin' Home," this time their '98 update, given a graceful representation.
