As extreme as heavy music's gotten in this day and age, and granted there's very little unseen or heard anymore, how about shifting back about ten or eleven years ago and getting an earful of this? Back when "Moshing" was in vogue-a pure and simple artform that many a band based their entire two year existence on, here was one that drew little if any competition as the reigning kings of stagewide terror and pit-driven damage! "Reek of Putrefaction" which if the soberest of conditions would be hard to pronounce even once, is even harder to listen to without being in an all out Anal Cunt state of mind… and for those of you who've been there before, I pity you. With tasteless and crude song titles that rival even the dirtiest among the infamous Cannibal catalog, every wretched tune either involves or highlights something truly disgusting and vile-"Genital Grinder," Regurgitation of Giblets," Carbonized Eyesockets…" what??? Utterly disgusting and completely revolting, think of the sheer genius that must go into the words of something like "Vomited Anal Tract…" and who says death metal's lacking originality? They're right on the money calling this thing "Reek of Putrefaction" cause it emits an odor so strong and so noxious it'll have even those winged fixtures from above turning green as they hurtle helplessly groundward! But this is Carcass and it's not like we're expecting soothing serenades at the fucking dinner theater! What they say or what they sound like is all at once indecipherable, hysterically funny and yet terribly brutal… but basically if anything ever created was meant to be taken with a grain of salt and a lightened mind, Carcass hoists first prize proudly over their head… and then slams it down on yours! So stick that in your corpsegrinder and chew on it! Released by Earache
