Wasn't this an old TV show at one time. or is that Car 54? Well I wasn't born yet anyway so what's the difference? And I doubt the two dudes on patrol would've been tuning into something like this. but a little more like the first couple of tracks and I'm sure many listeners today will be-this is tightly fitted hard edged rock and roll that fits well with commercial rock radio yet makes a quick turn now and again toward the underside of the roadway, and at times completely off it! In other words, as pop friendly and hook-oriented as a song like "Baby It's Me" or "Fools," might be, there's an equally disturbing darkside that presents itself in a song like "Rid of You," "Rock Star," "Fall for Me," where prettiness packs a pretty serious wallop! Led by guitarist John Conkle, the Virginia based Car 44's already established quite a name for themselves before the new disc's even had a chance to get its wheels off the ground yet. Lush and ladylike, when she's not driven by sheer bitterness, "M-12-11," lead vocalist Dahna Rowe delivers a sultry, sometimes sulky performance, that bleeds both charm and passion that time and again, brings me back to the days of Pat Benatar in each successive stage of her own storied career! Produced by Rollins Band alum Chris Haskett, the sound is fresh, while all at once polished and abrasive. a real soundbed of mixed emotion that lends itself to a rigid rock and roll formula that will go well with listeners who've been looking for a reason to take their radio back!
