Bloodthirst CANNIBAL CORPSE |
| Grinding corpses and taking
names. Yes once again we find everyone's favorite purveyors of death up to their old tricks-which include, though not limited to, acts of violent aggression, mutilation, acts of barbarism, torture, human dismemberment, and. just plain inconsideration for anyone who's ever derived pleasure from a well-played melody! They've been banned, exploited, oppressed. probably insulted, yet like the infamous butchers of the big screen, having been killed off nine ways to Sunday, they just keep coming back! Bigger, stronger, faster, and more VILE than ever and here with "Bloodthirst" we find them right at their peak of putridity! If we went through a song by song analysis, any difference to be discussed (disgust?) would comprise of roughly 10 seconds into each one as after that time, everything's buried in a complete blur. a total and complete aural devastation! You want musical quality, get it somewhere else. and why don't you lop off a finger for even thinking in such sacrilegious terms while we're still spewing blood here! No, no, you wanna get "Pounded into Dust", "Raped by the Beast" and left to "decay in ecstasy"! Just make sure you ain't wearin' anything white. It may be worth noting they recruited Colin Richardson, known to bring out that extra ounce of creativity for the Carcasses and Napalm Death's of the world, as producer. but I'll tell ya, you've gotta have one hell of a trained ear if you think you can tell the difference! Cannibal Corpse, as they continue to add new designs to sinfully impure, brutish behavior in testing the elasticity of our fragile human pysche, have been, still are, and who'll argue that they always will be the sickest, most offensive weapon the death metal industry's ever known. Live Cannibalism
Cannibal Corpse |
|
I dreaded having to listen to this… I really did. That's not a slight aimed at the group, savages though they may be, but can you imagine what it must be like to even attempt to capture something this brutish and nasty in a live setting? One thing I'll say upfront about Cannibal Corpse, album after album, kill after kill, they've never wavered in the manner with which they strike-hard, fast, and with absolutely no mercy! "Live Cannibalism" features the "Corpsegrinder" and crew on a recent massacre through Milwaukee for the successful North American Death Metal Massacre 2000 tour that the state's still recovering from… and where are your tax dollars being spent? Indianapolis got lucky… they only got "Stripped, Raped and Strangled, " Covered with Sores," and "Fucked with a Knife!" So does one Mr. Lieberman have a point when he directs his criticism toward such hateful and vile acts built upon destruction and death? You bet your scarified ass he does… there are none worse. Sadistic, twisted and revered by those of unsound mind living in this sick society bred on hatred and contempt, the vile and the corrupt will have their say… and Cannibal Corpse have been plunging their blood-stained knife in societal harmony for many years and who's to stop them? You can't kill 'em-they've proven that again and again… Now as far as live albums go, this one's remarkably clear-how they did it, I have no idea. But if you thought their songs were hard to follow just on the studio releases alone, good luck here, but this guy Richardson's got guts in that studio, I'll give him that much… the poor bastard. In covering the still remains from their earliest classic moments, a serial killer studying its craft, to the final waking moments of front page legends, the "Bloodthirsty" vengeance will prey upon all that stand before them… no overdubs, no technical debauchery-so take solace in the fact that all of the masochistic noise on display is strictly of their own doing… we never said they were human! Eighteen vulgar complexities bred on torture and torment, the 'Cannibal's let loose in North America just in time for a last minute campaign stroke by our left-leaning strategists grasping for the last shred of human integrity with which to base their wilting platform… Released by Metal

"Gore Obsessed" Cannibal Corpse |
|
"Gore Obsessed " like that's news? What can be said about Cannibal Corpse that hasn't been said over and again? Leaders in the Death community
for ten years strong, their brand of unholy, uncompromising and unparalleled
filth have led the charge for generations of evil doers "Gore Obsessed"
is yet another prime example of their ritualistic terror caught on
tape, The twist here, among many others, convulsive and otherwise it the addition of veteran producer Neil Kernon who, along with a little help from the band, has managed to infuse a bit more lifeblood into the musicianship, building on their strength of savagery and speed, they've brought another level of structure to the sound offering the listener more than just an average sixty minute slaughterfest. Change for change's sake? Not likely, the evidence hits
early on by way of "Hatchet To The Head," and "Pit
Of Zombies," full on Death fragmented by unique time changes
and sudden slants in the The riffing, more solid than ever, chunkier than before, still rapid fire to the extreme, generally where the soloing's concerned-take a good example in "Compelled To Lacerate" where the preceding events leading to the last gasping seconds manage to smash you to atoms, stand above you secondarily, then without warning bludgeon you blind. "Mutation Of The Cadaver"
is another severe and woeful form of life imitating art, or The changes are subtle but noticeable to the avid follower, the casual listener won't be so lucky and the doomsayers will meet their untimely death. Visually reprehensible as is their wont, "Gore Obsessed" remains rooted in gratuitous violence, horrifically representing the fall of man and exploiting all his fears in a methodically unyielding swing of the axe. Spewing forth even more lyrical
bile from a limitless wellspring of headless bodies, they again drench
and destroy a world of happiness, hope and humanity. Released by Metal
