Are You Man Enough? Betty Blowtorch |
|
Following the bootstraps of The Cycle Sluts From Hell, The Lunachicks and a wink and nod to those stylish seventies' girl-group pioneers The Runaways, Betty Blowtorch blows into town, armed with plenty o' sneer and dripping with attitude, they're the latest wave of bad girls out to bum rush the male-dominated stage. Femme Fatale for a new generation, Betty, placed in the first person, follows no rules, no apparent code of fashion and flies the finger at moral consciousness. No, Betty does just what she wants and what Betty wants is laid out pretty plainly in this fueled up fifteen track booze cruise down the highway to Hell. It's hook-infested white trash power trip Rock with a Punked up edge and little room for top 40 reasoning-even when they turn it down and go for a catchy little ballad type, they ruin it seconds later with a well-timed "You're Ugly" chorus from the lone holdover from their previous Butt Trumpet days… and if that name sound familiar, try these on for extra stability and see how quickly you forget-Bianca Butthole, bass and vocals, Sharon Needles, guitar and vocals, Blare N. Bitch, lead guitar and Judy Molish, drums… okay I'll bite, what's a Molish? Added attractions include band member bios, measurements, turn-ons, fantasies and so forth, R-rated of course-but don't worry there'll be a warning sticker placed firmly out front for those amongst the virginous variety-and a song called "Shut Up And Fuck" which for all its great intentions basically puts a target squarely on their backs for parental control groups to come scurrying out of the wood work, scowling, pointing and panting. Betty harmonizes very well, and can at times be very melodious, but when she gets down, she don't fool-we're talking loud, mean, dirty and a little bit obscene, but they'll get ya blood pumpin' in mere seconds once "Hell On Wheels" rolls over ya, or "Size Queen," with a guest appearance by Vanilla Ice of all people-the scary part is they met him at a recording studio… lookout now world! Real serious headbangers will yank some classic Bitch moments out of something like "I Wanna Be Your Sucker," or "Big Hair, Broken Heart," their ode to the glam rockers of yesteryear, and throwing ol' Wendy O' into the mix couldn't hurt-with all this screaming and cursing and bathroom lyricism, her influence is never too far away.
