As most of you already know, Bates Motel, was the location of suspense in those Psycho films, but it is also the name of a metal band who hail from Vancouver, Canada.

This offering from ex-Annihilator guitarist John Bates' new band Bates Motel is worlds apart from the Thrash Metal of his previous band, being quite catchy in places and still contains an aggressive heavy rock stylewith a slight Gothic edge to the vocals and lyrics.

The opening track "Killing Me" has the great crunching guitar sound. Bates' vocals alternate from a clean Gothic style on the verses to a raw-throated, almost Punk drawl on the chorus.

Other tracks worth mentioning are "No Machine" with it grinding riff and the creepy " Famous Murders".

The rest of the tracks are mainly made up of a manic Goth-Punk element, but there are a few slower ballads, which for don't kind of fit in with the rest of the album, but it's only a minor point..

There's also an excellent cover of The Rocky Horror Show's "Sweet Transvestite".

The production job is done by Jeff Waters, John Bates former bandmate from Annihilator and I have to say he's done a damn fine job too. Suiting the music perfectly and giving this raw energy to come across.

This album is quite easy to get into, but takes time to grow on you to really shine.
Recommended!
