Changing Skin
ANDRE ANDERSON

Breaking away from his duties with Danish Progressive Metal masters Royal Hunt, Andersen's "Changing Skin" represents a recording of grandiose proportions though little has actually changed where expectation is concerned.

Unlike many established musicians who venture into uncharted terrain with their solo work, Andersen sticks close to home, deeming personally penned lyrics for this outing but retaining that majestic sound and vibrant atmosphere that's long since followed his working band for several years.

"Changing Skin" and "Burning Bridges" are a near half-album's worth of music for many but here representative of only the first two tracks. adventurous and intriguing, languishing in a classically orchestrated aura reminiscent of early Rainbow only vastly deeper.

Of particular interest might be the unexpected though stellar cover of Whitesnake's "Crying in the Rain" which appears as one of the bonus tracks and never quite heard in this manner before-uplifted to a totally new level. There aren't many progressive artists that can hold my interest for long but the material here goes the distance.
