GodMachine
ANASARCA

100% Death Metal.

It doesn't come any heavier, severe or harsh than this. This album was a true to the Death Metal (DM) form - play as loud and as fast as you possibly can.

The CD sleeve quotes..."God machine" contains 10 songs of pure brutality, a mixture of the grinding US and "melodical" European style - but I think that the term "melodically challenged" is more appropriate (is 'melodical' a real word???)

The vocals (I cannot refer to it as singing) were normally at a single note, one octave higher than sounds that can only be heard by elephants. The vocalist did emit some other sounds apart from this monotonous, deep throaty sound occasionally, which was a much higher scream - again mainly at a single note.

The guitar sound was a set of chords for each song, played at fairly normal speed, but the strings were being hit as fast as possible giving that 'eerie' guitar sound that most DM churns out. The same result can be gained by playing a normal LP (that a vinyl record to those of you who cannot remember) at 45rpm on your turntable.

The drumming, I must say, was pretty good, but if only sometimes limited. Unfortunately most DM uses the same drum beats through a whole album, but not this one. The drumming was the only reprieve from the tedium that this album offered.

This album is what a great many DM fans want, but personally I found it gloomy and depressing - don't forget though that 'gloomy and depressing' has been done so many times before!!

'Done to Death' - hence the name 'Death Metal' ????
