ALLISON |
| Allison are from Malaga
(Spain) and comprise of: Pablo C. (Bass & Vocals) Miguel (Keyboards) Oliver (Drums) Victor Garcia (Guitars) From the first few minutes of listening to this album I was already well into it (which is unusual for me - I have to listen to most albums a few times before I can say that!). It is difficult to summarise the music style as it differs throughout the album. The insert for the CD says "Allison mixes HC/Punk/Crossover to discharge rhythms and riffs powerful and raging..." and this could be no further from the truth. The vocals are very powerful and very varied. Not many vocalists manage to switch from an aggressive, powerful style into a more melodic sound instantly, and this is one of them. The singing style is very similar to the later years of 'Faith No More' but generally swings to the heavier side. Some of the guitar sounds and the riffs are really powerful and are among the heaviest (along the lines of Machine Head, Pantera etc) that you could get outside of any Death Metal. Most of the riffs are original, but I could hear certain other bands influences deep down in there. The drumming manages to keep up the high tension and power that this band emits by always being well matched to the music being produced by the rest of the band. It was nice to hear that the drums seem to be following the guitar sounds - not the other way around that lots of bands do that emphasises the drumming too much. I was unsure at first about the use of keyboards (as I always am), but I must say that they are always used where necessary and did not overpower any of the other instruments. Although they were there throughout the album, you were not always aware that they were, and they were never used excessively. They only down side I had to this album is that it was not long enough - I reached the end of the eight songs thinking that I want to hear some more and I will definitely be on the look out for some more "Pure Crossover Metal" from these guys!!
